Sound panel 5

Testing a few new things --- Any suggestions would be great.

We created a parametric version of our MusicBOX, which is a direct translation of the Formwork. As can be seen from the earlier drawings, each music measure makes for one panel. Thus the MusicBOX maps the notes and generates, what we call, a 'Musical Topography'.

For building the parametric system, we used CATIA. The System is set with the 12 strings with each string having 12 points along it's length. The height of the rods can be (1,2,3,4,5,6 in). The first take was to input each value as a drop down menu. But running a series of music measures can be tedious, so we plugged in everything into an Excel sheet. As one edits the excel sheet, a new topography is created. Below is the system working for some crazy inputs. Fun with excel is the rand (command). The combination of random and numbers might lead us to, what we might call 'Music Manipulation'.

1) Catia : MusicBOX

2) Excel -> CATIA : Note as Numbers

3) Generates a 'Musical Topography'

4) Catia -> Rhino : Bring Panel as Geometry /MESH

5) Predicted CAST Panel with String Insets as appears in our casting explorations

6) Musical Topography :)

6) Rendered Panel -> We hope to create such effects for the sun analysis.

We are just beginning to explore. It seems rather than having points /Notes, creating fields of intensities will be interesting, as Josh suggested. This might give us a more fluid effect. We will try casting with this idea today -Lets see. We're also going to use this parametric system to generate drawings.

Seems like our 'MusicBox -> Musical Topographies -> Music Manipulation' might lead us to some 'Mathematcial MusicMixes' :0

Looking forward to suggestions !
